Private Instruction from Dragon Studios
Dragon Studios instructors are available to instruct Taijiquan, Hatha Yoga, or combined lessons to individuals or private study groups. Our instructors can help you or your group:
- Learn the postures and practices of Taijiquan and Hatha Yoga
- Develop a consistent routine for regular, daily workouts
- Advance and learn the complete Yang-Style Taijiquan form
- Learn to direct your interal energy
- Advance from basic Yoga poses to dynamic Yoga poses
Group study can often be more beneficial than private Taijiquan and/or Yoga study. Sharing a common practice with a group of friends/neighbors/relations helps to motivate you into continuous practice and improvement, and creates lasting bonds of friendship as you learn and grow together.
A Dragon Studios instructor can come weekly to your study group sessions to lead and instruct the group through a Taijiquan, Yoga, or combined workout. The study group is encouraged to meet more often to help one another through the routines.
What will this cost?
Private Lesson fees are $50.00/week for one or two students (e.g., couples). Courses are scheduled as either one two-hour course, or two one-hour courses.
The Study Group instructional fee is $50.00/week or $200.00/month for a two-hour weekly session. This cost is for the ENTIRE group, not per individual; so if you have four members in your study group, the cost per member is $50.00 each/month. The more members you have, the better the cost for each member. The organizer is ultimately responsible for paying the instructional fee to the instructor. Fees are accepted either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly for your convenience. Groups of over 10 people will require more time for individual attention, so an additional hour will be added to the instruction night for groups of 15 to 20, and an additional $100.00 fee will be added to the monthly cost to compensate for this extra hour.

So How Do I Start a Study Group?
The first element you need is an open, comfortable space where you can hold your group meetings. Large basement recreation rooms, heated/cooled garages, and/or open living rooms are a few examples. The space should have enough floorspace to accomodate your entire group and should be available for regular weekly, or even daily meetings. If possible, alternate locations should be provided by other members of the study group to accomodate family vacations, emergencies, and other unavailabilities.
Contact friends, family and neighbors who have an interest in either (or both) Taijiquan and Hatha Yoga and decide on a day or days you can all normally be free to meet for lessons and workouts. Consistent meeting times are important. Please discuss with the instructor if this day needs to change to better accomodate the members.
Once your group is organized, a few ground rules should be established to provide a level of trust for all the members. Rules involving personal conduct, language, topics of discussion (should be limited to the course and its philosophies to make the time productive), etiquette, and even attire should be set to help everyone feel comfortable at the group. This will go a long way to ensuring your group stays together, and that new people can understand all expectations on their first night. Naturally, these rules MUST be communicated to the Dragon Studios instructor prior to the first class.
Working out at a person's home can create many distractions in the way of children and/or other family members coming in and interrupting the flow of the class. Ground rules regarding entering class should always be established for non-participating family members to help minimize these interruptions. It's highly recommended that group babysitting efforts are NOT established at the study group location unless the meeting room can be locked or otherwise barred from entry during the session.
